Becoming A Wellness Warrior
I never set out to be a wellness warrior.
Like so many of us, I had to learn to fight for my health.
When I was growing up I wasn’t taught to respect my body or provide it with nutritious food. When I got sick I didn’t see it coming. The food I was eating was considered normal - why would it make me sick?
My health issues began with digestive problems. Severe IBS, bloating, abdominal pain, constipation, and constant discomfort.
After seeing several doctors and specialists and completing multiple diagnostic tests, I realized I was going to have to solve the problem myself.
One day a light bulb finally switched on.
“What if I just start to eat better?”
None of my doctors had asked about my diet and how it might be contributing to my conditions. Not once. But I had a strong sense that what and how I ate mattered.
So I tried an experiment.
I continued to eat all of the foods I grew up eating - chicken, dairy, eggs, ice cream, cookies, pancakes, butter, occasional meat - but I decided to start making my own lunches every day.
I made a spinach-based salad for lunch, Monday through Friday, to bring to campus with me during my sophomore year of college. Sometimes it would have fruit, sometimes chicken, sometimes cheese - it varied. But every salad had spinach as the base.
This one simple change began to heal my gut.
From then on, I was hooked. I became a crusader for my own health and began a lifelong journey of discovering natural ways to solve health challenges.
I started eating more healthfully immediately, bringing in more foods that I learned were good for us based on mainstream understanding of nutrition - fruits, vegetables, whole grains, herbs, and spices.
My digestion improved almost overnight with the worst of my symptoms finally disappearing and a few lingering for a few months but eventually falling away.
So when my health fell apart for many reasons a couple years later, I was more prepared. I knew I’d have to fight for answers, but I also knew those answers were out there waiting for me to discover them.
So often, well-meaning doctors don’t have the tools or the information to truly heal us.
I say this with deep respect for all doctors and nurses out there - I have several in my family.
Unfortunately, the medical education system does not provide most professionals with tools that work with the human body to recover health.
Prescriptions do not solve problems. Pills do not heal.
Medications may mask or alleviate symptoms, but they do not heal the body. Knowledge of the root cause of a condition combined with the tools from Nature designed to remove them are the true solution with any health condition.
From severe anxiety and PTSD, which I suffered from for years, to advanced stage neurological illness, to chronic illnesses like diabetes, pancreatitis, colitis, and heart disease, with the right tools WE CAN HEAL.
But finding the solutions often means fighting against mainstream narratives which tell us that illness is normal, even inevitable, and that the only way to improve is to take medications and hope for the best.
This is why support is crucial when seeking healing.
It is not easy to be a warrior for your health at the beginning. It’s scary to seek opinions and answers outside of the box of modern medicine, but in my experience it’s the only way to truly recover our health.
I did not spend the early part of my life passionate about healing methodologies. I was an artist who thought I’d spend my entire life and career making art.
Discovering my voice as a wellness warrior changed my path.
Once I found my own strength, and discovered that I had the ability to transform my health with the proper knowledge and healing protocols, I knew I wanted to help others do the same.
You may be struggling with your health right now.
You may be confused about the conflicting information you’re hearing from various practitioners and professionals.
You may be seeking inspiration on social media and seeing ten different recommendations from ten different “experts” who all act as though they have the key to your health.
You may be crying out for help, for answers, for support, for guidance.
My mission is to help you discover the Truth for you, and to guide you as you build a relationship with your body and spirit that will enable you to KNOW what will heal you.
My mission is to take what I’ve learned on my path as a warrior for my health, and help empower you to build strength again: to build confidence in your body’s ability to heal, to build new habits and routines that will get you your life back, and to build that warrior mentality that will never give up as long as you’re breathing.
Like me, you may not have set out to be a warrior for your health.
You might be exhausted by the struggle, as I’ve been in the past.
You might be ready to fight, but disheartened by the confusion in the health world.
I’m here to tell you - you can find answers, and you can get through this.
And I am here to help.
You don’t have to do this alone.
There are tools and methods I’ve learned along my path while healing my own body, mind, heart, and soul that I know to be effective.
I’ve seen the power of healing foods transform my life and the lives of my clients.
I’ve seen how limiting beliefs hold us back and keep us from stepping into wellness and fulfillment.
I’ve seen how resentments and past traumas erode our sense of self so that we hide from the things that make us happy.
And I’ve seen how all of these limitations can transform into opportunities for growth and joy.
I would be honored to support you on your journey back to health and wholeness.
